چکیده

A risk assessment method recommended by PEMSEA was introduced to assess environmental risk of heavy metals (Copper, Lead, Mercury and Cadmium) in Bohai seawater, North China. Risk quotient was calculated upon measured data of 2002 and sea water quality criteria. Monte Carlo technique was used to estimate the uncertainty of risk. The priority risk agents were Hg and Pb, the localized risk agent was Cu while risk from Cd was at acceptable level. The coastal waters near estuaries and big cities have higher potential risks; especially Bohai Bay located in the west Bohai Sea had the highest risk where the heavy metal pollution was most serious. Data of the next year verifies the uncertainty analysis result that with a confidence of more than 75% the risk quotients for Hg and Pb exceed the critical value. The sources, background concentration and biota assessment of heavy metals of Bohai Sea were discussed too. © 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Sediment Quality of the SW Coastal Laizhou Bay, Bohai Sea, China: A Comprehensive Assessment Based on the Analysis of Heavy Metals

Historically, the Bohai Sea is one of the most important fishing grounds in China. Yet, surrounded by one of the biggest economic rims of China, its ecological functions have been declining rapidly in recent two decades under the heavy anthropogenic impacts. The Laizhou Bay is the smallest one of the three main bays in the Bohai Sea. Owing to the rich brine deposits, chemical industries using b...

Heavy Metals Pollution and Pb Isotopic Signatures in Surface Sediments Collected from Bohai Bay, North China

To investigate the characteristics and potential sources of heavy metals pollution, surface sediments collected from Bohai Bay, North China, were analyzed for the selected metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn). The Geoaccumulation Index was used to assess the level of heavy metal pollution. Pb isotopic compositions in sediments were also measured to effectively identify the potential Pb sources. ...

Potential human health risk assessment of heavy metals in the flesh of mallard and pochard in the South Eastern Caspian Sea region of Iran

Every year, migratory waterfowl are hunted and consumed by people in Golestan Province of Iran. Due to the heavy metal contamination of wintering habitats, an estimation of the human health risks associated with the consumption of these ducks is necessary. Therefore, this study was conducted to estimate the health risks of exposure to cadmium (Cd), total chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), lead (Pb), and...

Heavy metals bioaccumulation in fish of southern Iran and risk assessment of fish consumption

Background: This study purposed to assess the health risks of heavy metals including nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb) in three widely-consumed fish from the coast of Bandar Abbas (Persian Gulf) and to determine the maximum amounts allowed for consumption according to the degree of contamination. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the summer and fall of ...
